Where is Dabton House Wedding Venue?
Dabton House is a new venue which opened in 2023 after an extensive and thoughtful renovation. It
is located near Thornhill, and just 30 minutes from Dumfries and 10 minutes from Drumlanrig Castle.
Dabton was designed in 1820 by the popular architect William Atkinson, following a commission by
Walter Montagu Douglas Scott, the 5th Duke of Buccleuch. The house historically served as the
home of the Queensberry Estate's factor until, in the 1980s, it was refurbished by the 10 th Duke and
Duchess of Buccleuch as a wonderful family home for themselves and their four children, including
Walter Dalkeith. In this new chapter, the Earl and Countess of Dalkeith, Walter and Elizabeth, have
been instrumental in leading the recent renovations of Dabton House, which they completed in
August 2023. The family continues to use the house today and it retains the ambience of a family
home.
How many guests can it hold?
At Dabton, they have the flexibility to host weddings of different sizes. Whether it's a cozy and intimate gathering or a grand event with hundreds of guests, they can set up bespoke marquees in the Gardens to accommodate the specific needs and vision of each wedding celebration.
Spaces inside Dabton House
The main draw as you pull up the driveway the beautiful Dabton house wedding venue is sitting proud above the rest of the property. The gardens offer several options for the ceremony. For weddings with up to 100 guests, marquees can be set up on the front lawn of the house. For larger celebrations, an alternative location is within the tennis court.
There is also an amazing sauna and massage room on site for pampering before the wedding.
Accommodation at Dalton House
Dabton House has 11 ensuite bedrooms, accommodating up to 22 guests, and a small additional room for two children. The house features comfortable living spaces, including a drawing room, library, games room, dining room, a welcoming kitchen, an extra commercial kitchen, and amenities like a sauna and treatment room.
Additionally, Dabton House Wedding Venue is connected to Drumlanrig Castle and Country Estate, offering three self-catering apartments and four holiday cottages that can accommodate an extra 40 guests. It provides a versatile setup for a relaxing stay.
Best timing for your wedding
Between March and August Dabton is spectacular, with the beautiful four acres of gardens
looking their best. On occasion limited dates may be available from September to February.

Too many to name! From against the Georgian country home, or in the beautiful hallway and
staircase within the house, to a number of secluded spots around the gardens. From historic
benches in quiet nooks of the garden, to the ornamental red bridge, or between the beautiful trees
