Cairns Farm Estate Wedding Guide – Everything you should know in 2024.
Here is our fantastic Cairns Farm Estate Wedding guide on everything you could ever want to know when planning your wedding at this beautiful Barn Wedding in Edinburgh.
I have had the honour of photographing here, and it never disappoints. This guide will help you find all the fantastic local vendors who can help make your day extra special and all my favourite insider tips on having the best cairns farms wedding experience.
Where is Cairns Farm Estate?
Cairns farm estate is located at the edge of the stunning Pentland Hills Just outside Edinburgh, Scotland's Capital City. The venue is 16 miles from Edinburgh City Centre and 42 miles from Glasgow.
The closest airports to the venue are Edinburgh and then Glasgow. The venue sits on the city's outskirts, so the best way is by car or taxi.
Why choose GGs Yard for your wedding ceremony?
There are lots of unique venues in Scotland. However, Cairns farm is pretty unique. The venue sits in the middle of the Pentland hills, just outside Edinburgh. With the beautiful vista of the hills and loch in front of you, it has everything an outdoor lover could want.
The venue building is a modern barn full of industrial and rustic charm. The venue feels very cosy whilst its floor-to-ceiling windows let in lots of beautiful daylight and all those fantastic views.
How many guests can Cairns Farm hold?
Cairns Farm estate can host up to 130 guests during the day, with a further 40 guests for the evening reception.
Spaces inside Cairns Farm wedding venue.
The Keep
The keep is the ideal location for an intimate bridal party to get ready in the morning before the big day. Just a two-minute walk from the venue, it's perfect for a few wedding party members to stay and get ready before the big day.
The Farmhouse
The Farmhouse is the ideal place for bigger bridal parties to say before the wedding, with plenty of space in its beautiful 19th-century Farmhouse. It can host more significant numbers with a generous dining room and a big lounge. The perfect place for hair and make-up to be done whilst you overlook the loch.
Ceremony Wing.
The ceremony room is filled with beautiful wooden pews and floor-to-ceiling windows, and the far end is where the couple will stand during the ceremony. The room is bright, airy and large enough to have a string quartet playing.
Main room
This room is where the main wedding reception will take place. After the ceremony and photos, guests can mingle in the spacious room with its rustic and charming bar. Once the time comes, you and your guests will also sit down for your speeches and dinner here. The room has a big stage for your band or DJ and lots of room on the dancefloor to get the party started.
Silo
When entering the venue, you are instantly greeted by the beautiful metal silo, the perfect place for all your welcome signs and photo opportunities.
Also to, note the venue is all on one level, which makes it ideal for anyone requiring wheelchair access or with mobility needs.
Accommodation at Cairns Farm Estate.
Lastly,
The venue has three places where you can stay, the keep which is the perfect little honeymoon suite. In addition, the Farmhouse has five large guest rooms.
And for guests who need accommodation, there are six cosy cabins which sleep up to 12 people (2 per cabin.) In addition, there are lots of local accommodations, and Edinburgh is only half an hour away.
Best timing for your wedding.
Firstly, the venue hosts only two weddings per week, both of which have exclusive use on Wednesday & Saturday.
You are in the hills, so the weather can be changeable but anytime is a great time for a Carins Farm Estate Wedding. My favourite time is Autumn when all the leaves are golden, with a blue sky above and crispness to the air.
If you are getting married in the cooler months, make sure, as with anywhere in Scotland, you bring extra clothes, including shawls, to keep you warm.
Unique Locations for your couple's photos.
One of my favourite parts of any wedding day is your couple's photo session. I always ensure we work as quickly, maximising the locations and having the best time possible.
Firstly, there are lots of little cosy nooks within the venue for photos inside, including in the Silo and cosy fireplace around the side.
Outside at the venue, you will be blown away by the panoramic views. I love going down by the loch, with all its natural beauty. You can also go around the old castle behind the Farmhouse. And up behind the venue beyond the fields, you will see all the stunning hills that frame the venue stunningly.
Why should you consider booking GGs?
There are many reasons why you should book GGs Yard for your wedding. But here are some of my top reasons:
- Firstly, it can host up to 130 day guests, with up to 170 in the evening.
- Secondly, it's super close to Edinburgh and Glasgow, making it an ideal location for most couples.
- Exclusive use in beautiful surroundings.
- The venue has its own exclusive catering company Hickory which provides impressive local produce. I can't recommend the lamb enough. This is a foodie's venue.
- Stunning photo opportunities everywhere.
- Lastly, the staff are incredible, no problem too small and always helpful throughout the day.
