Springkell Wedding Guide – Everything you should know in 2023.
Here is our fantastic Springkell Wedding guide on everything you could ever want to know when planning your wedding at this incredible stately home in South Scotland.
I've had the privilege of photographing so many weddings here. This guide will assist you in locating all the fantastic local service providers who can help make your special day even more memorable, as well as all of my insider recommendations for the ultimate Springkell Wedding experience.
Where is Springkell?
Springkell is located just outside the Scotland-England border near the village of Eaglesfield. The venue is perfect for couples getting married who want to be in the middle of the country.
The closest cities are Carlisle and Dumfries in Scotland. Both are around 35 minutes away from the venue.
The closest airports to the venue are Glasgow and Newcastle. The closet rail connections are Carlisle & Lockerbie. I recommend driving or hiring a car to get around the rural area.
Why choose Springkell for your wedding ceremony?
If you love the idea of the grandeur of stately country homes, then Sprinkell is the perfect location for you. The venue can be hired exclusively for your wedding so you have the place all to yourself.
The lovely Johnson-Ferguson Family owns the venue and loves hosting weddings of all sizes in their beautiful home. James and his family do everything to make you feel at home and welcome during your stay, with excellent attention to detail.
How many guests can Springkell Hold?
Springkell can host weddings from small beautiful elopements to 150 guests, depending on your required rooms.
Spaces inside the venue.
The House
Springkell is a stunning Palladian mansion built in 1734, set in lovely formal gardens and parklands that provide a stunning backdrop whatever the season. The wedding room in the house, with giant floor-to-ceiling windows and a beautiful Italian Marble fireplace, can host ceremonies of up to 80 guests. The ballroom, where the wedding breakfast and evening reception holds up to 100 guests.
Marquee
If you would like a more significant number of guests at your wedding, the venue has a beautiful marquee right on the house's front lawn. The marquee can be used during the entire day or in the evening if you want many evening guests to join you for the party. The marquee is available during the primary wedding season from April-October.
Accommodation at Springkell.
Springkell has lots of brilliant accommodations on site. Guests and the bridal party can choose to stay in the night before the wedding in the house. The beautiful bridal suite is spacious and charming, perfect for getting ready in the morning of the wedding.
Springkell sleeps 49 in the house and 17 in the cottages making 66 in all.
There are seven rooms within the main house, three cottages and one stable where extra guests can stay.
There are many local Airbnb and hotel options nearby for any extra guests you may have that need somewhere to stay in Lockerbie, Gretna, Dumfries or Carlisle.
Best timing for your wedding.
Springkell is a beautiful location to get married anytime in the year. However, my favourite time at the venue is in Summer. The picturesque parkland setting comes alive with all the stunning colours during that time. The manicured gardens are bursting with so much floral colour.
A little-known fact, if the conditions are right, you can see the Milkyway from the back of the house at certain times of the year because of the little light pollution in the area, and it makes for an incredible photo opportunity too.
Unique Locations for your couple's photos.
The couple's photos after the ceremony are my favourite part of weddings. Knowing all of the best locations means we make the best use of your time, getting you back to your guests as soon as possible!
The grounds of Springkell make for some of the best photo opportunities. The stunning gardens and steps and the back of the hotel are fantastic for couples and group photos too. The gardeners at Springkell do a brilliant job making sure the floral displays are perfect all year round.
If you venture into the parkland, you'll find sprawling meadows on long grass that dance in the summer breeze and beautiful mature woodlands. Also, the marble entrance hallway is such a unique location, I can't say I've seen anywhere else with floor-to-ceiling marble. It's one of a kind!
